Armour for the Flu Season

 

Zinc:              plays an important role in preventing pneumonia or limiting the damage done by the pneumonia. Zinc Methionine is the best absorbed.

 

Selenium:     with adequate levels in your body viruses will be much less aggressive (less virulent) But Don’t overdose. Seleno Methionine is best.

 

Fish Oils:     with enough Omega 3 your immune system will not over react to an infection. In the ‘Sars’ epidemic, young healthy individuals died from that over reaction. The over reaction comes from too much Omega 6 Oil (processed oils) and lack of Omega 3. Too much mucous, too much swelling and inflammation blocked the bronchial tubes.

Beware of the cheaper Cod Liver Oils -  they can be contaminated, rancid and contain heavy metals.

 

Vitamin D:    take 5000 units per day. Short  term larger doses can be taken. They will help produce Antimicrobial Peptides that act as antibiotics without the side effects. Vit D also prevents winter depression.

 

CoQ10:             generally boosts immunity

 

NAC:              N-Acetyl-Cysteine is widely used in Europe to loosen mucous so it is easier to cough up. Frequently forgotten is the fact  that the ‘mucous blanket’ that is constantly on the move and replaced in the respiratory tract, is absolutely the first line of defense. If the mucous gets thick and dries up, infection can flourish. NAC is also great for the brain and liver as your body can produce more glutathione (the ultimate detoxifier)

Wash hands and avoid ‘To Go’ cups that have been touched on the rim by your friendly server. Most transmission of viruses is by touch.
